iDESIGN ER (PACKAGING PROJECT)

PROJECT BRIEF
The brief is aimed at developing my finishing skills so that I can successfully communicate my own idea. I am expected to craft this idea into a packaging that conveys a tool or object to be used in a design emergency.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Designers who seek help in a design emergency, and want an easy and creative packaging product to help them through the design process.

CONCEPT
I chose to package a mind control poison in the form of an apple. The poison is 'injected' into the apple and you are required to bite a slice. There are four types of mind control poison, and an extra slice for each. It is called iBite, and will help you in an emergency when you want to control what people think of your concept, what their reaction towards it will be, when and where you have to submit your designs, and how people around you are feeling.

CHARACTER IDENTITY & SYMBOLIC EVOLUTIONS (Branding Project)

PROJECT BRIEF

The brief requires me to develop a

brand identity for a movie I chose from

a list, and 3 characters in the movie.

I then have to develop 4 business cards,

one for each identity.

TARGET AUDIENCE

People who like Monty Python, and who

admire the characters in Monty Python

and the Holy Grail.

CONCEPT

I chose to carry water colour throughout

the project. I developed bussiness cards

that could function as masks, so you

become each character. The one side

is a painting of an icon or symbol that I

related to each character. The other side

is the business card information. The

eyes are cut-outs to allow the public to see

through them.

Typography Book Project

My first project I did for 2nd year graphic design was a typography book project called 'Just My Type'. This project required me to interview ten people including myself, asking questions like what our likes and dislikes are, and choosing a quote that best describes us. I then had to design a ten double page spread book containing each person's quote and design style in it.

My concept was about condensed space and dislikes. I placed each person's quote on the one page and a typography design containing oppposites and dislikes of their quote on the other page. I designed different variations of line running through and out from their quotes; each representing their design style.

Below, you can see examples of my book in double spread page form. I encourage readers to critique my designs as honest as possible, as I would like to gain more feed back from the public.

My Situation

The point of my blog is to gain critical feedback from the public on my designs. Even if it is a small point made, it still counts! This feedback will allow me to see where I am going wrong and how I can improve on my designs to ultimately become a better, more successful designer.

I want honest and open opinions! I won't hold grudges against you don't worry! :) I want to be the best I can be, and I cannot do that if I design in isolation...

Me

This is my first post, so I am going to start off by introducing myself...

My name is Magan Evans (ME) but you can call me mags for short. I live in Benoni, Johannesburg, and I am currently studying 2nd year graphic design at Greenside Design Center.

I am a very relaxed type of person, except for when I am stressed! I don't like conformity or trying so hard to fit in. I am very spontaneous, so I don't like routine very much. I also love travelling and the outdoors. I love animals and spending time with family and friends. Memories are important to me, so I always have a camera with me where ever I go.

I'm easy going and fun to be around, and I try my best to create positivity around me!
